And of Thine Own Have We Given Thee...
Dear Redeemer Family,
It has been a most unusual year at Redeemer and for Brookhaven. We've learned to navigate a new world with church and Sunday school, and even coffee hour via virtual platforms like Zoom and YouTube. Carlisle Henderson and Shannon Eubanks have provided valuable instruction to the curious faithful, and Julia Miller stayed connected to our youth via the blessing of modern technology. During our COVID diaspora, we missed celebrating the Eucharist but have reacquainted ourselves with the rich liturgy of Morning Prayer. When we have opened for public Eucharists, we rejoiced to see each other, yet missed the familiar displays of fellowship during the Peace and at our Common Table.
With generous assistance from Fr. Geoffrey Butcher, Fr. Andrew has been a steady face leading our worship. De'Ana and an occasional choir member have recorded music for our virtual gatherings, the Altar Guild has prepared our blessed table, and many have volunteered to read the lessons. The beauty and simplicity of Compline two evenings a week have reminded us to end our day's labors with words of praise to God. Angel's Attic continues to fill a great need for this community. The ECW has provided masks for those in need and meals for those suffering from illness or grief. Fr. Andrew has even visited many of us right at home, nurturing the personal relationships vital to our lives as Christians.
In this unprecedented time, and as we slowly and carefully continue to see what a safe in-person church looks like during a pre-vaccine pandemic, we have been living a vital reality—the building alone is not the church, of course, WE ARE THE CHURCH. Despite the uncertainties of the pandemic, we are continuing to live out our call to be the church in the world through prayer, worship, and support for others and one another. By staying connected and through actions of service, we continue to BE THE CHURCH.
As we gather the final weeks of this year, we will continue to serve God and our neighbors in the parish, down the street, and throughout the world in ways both big and small. I ask that you invite God into your budget. Your treasure, represented by your financial commitment to Redeemer, provides the resources that help make all the ways we serve possible. Please go here to complete a digital pledge form, or you may choose to fill out the paper pledge card mailed to you or available in the church. On Sunday, December 6, we will gather at the 10:00 am service to collect and acknowledge your pledges and bless them all as we move forward in a year of anticipation, of hope, and of continuing, because WE ARE THE CHURCH whatever the circumstances.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration.
Faithfully yours,
Fr. Andrew Mclarty, Priest-in-Charge Julia Miller, Sr. Warden Mike Said, Jr. Warden
Anne Houston Craig, Barbara Davis, Anne Henderson, Kelly Perkins, Dorothy LeBlanc, Chad Leggett, and Emily Rossie, Vestry
