Two Special Service This Week

A Commemoration for Her Late Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II

To mark the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, as a member of the Anglican Communion, invites all to commemorate her life and service to the church.

The service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, at the parish located at 230 W. Monticello St. In accordance with the plan put forth by the Church of England for services commemorating Her Majesty, bells will be rung an hour before the service, and a Book of Condolences will be available for signing.
In her official capacity, Queen Elizabeth was the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, the mother church of the worldwide Anglican Communion, of which many American Episcopal churches belong.

Parking is available on the side of N. Church St. as well as in the parking lot connecting the church with Angel’s Attic Thrift Store.

All are welcome.

Redeemer and First United Methodist Team up to Bless the Animals!

The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer and First United Methodist Church in Brookhaven will be holding a special “Blessing of the Animals” on Sunday, October 2nd, at 4 PM, in the Redeemer’s Trinity Park, which is located at the corner of West Monticello and South Jackson streets. The event is free, and all animals and “their people” are welcome!

The service, which is traditional in both the Anglican and Methodist churches, witnesses to God's and the church's love, care, and concern for all creation. The church recognizes our mutual interdependence with God's creatures, and the need to be good stewards of God’s creation is vitally important.

In the Bible we are charged with caring for all the animals that live on the land, swim in the seas, and fly in the skies. In Genesis 1:26, it says, “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’

Father Andrew McLarty, Priest-in-Charge of the Redeemer, and Rev. Stacy Douglas, Pastor of First United Methodist, will be performing a brief blessing over the gathered animals, and in addition, there will be contests for “Best Costume,” “Cuddliest Canine,” and “Friendliest Feline,” as well as “Best in Show.”

Although the event is free, both churches are requesting that participants bring donations of dog, puppy, or cat food, or cleaning supplies (bleach, paper towels, etc.) to be donated to the Brookhaven Animal Rescue League (BARL).
